maybe you're right and I have no idea but I spent some time earning a living 
out of WebLogic migrations ;-) 
Yes, migrating away from version 8 is usually counted by years. But our friend 
already made it to 9.3. Upgradig to 11 should be a matter of days. 

Checking another version of weblogic looks to me the most probable way to track 
down the problem ( following Mr Ockham, 
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Occam%27s_razor ). Assuming a strange interference 
between iText and weblogic  that can be fixed in iText sounds a bit wierd to 
me. In the best case there is already a more recent version weblogic 
installation available for a quick deployment  ..

Also comparing profile results from Tomcat and weblogic could uncover 
interesting informations. But this takes time and effort, too.

Anyway, looking forward to know what's the outcome !
