JPedal can do that for you. To be clear: I use iText for everything it can possibly do for me, but in situations such as this, where you have to "go elsewhere", you can try JPedal and/or PDFBox. They're both pretty good supplements to iText (which, as I said, I prefer and is my "first choice" for any/all PDF functionality).
