The first two parts of the 2nd edition of "iText in Action" are more or less indispensable for newbies, but you're right: the publisher (Manning Publications Co) has asked me if I knew somebody who could write a book with less pages that would be like some kind of "iText for newbies". I'm still in doubt if that's what we need.
