Although not related to the issue, I see three problems with this PDF.

1) There is a improper ITXT key in the Page dictionary.  Get rid of it or turn 
it into a proper second class prefixed key.

2) img0 doesn't belong and is wasting space.  Since the data is in the SMask of 
the actual image, you don't need a separate resource - and in fact, optimizers 
would remove it since it's unused.

3) No Page transparency group, so blending is taking place in CMYK instead of 
RGB.


As to the issue, you are running into the anti-aliasing algorithm conflicting 
with the transparency blending (partially related to #3).  Don't use raster 
images if you don't need to, and watch the masks.
