Thanks Leonard, but that is not much help.
Aren’t there any rules for appropriateness of responses on this forum?

Any process that converts PDF to Postscript is living in the stone age and you
should RUN AWAY (far, far away) as quickly as you can!! (especially if your
business is based on it)

So PDF 1.2 is from 1996 and PDF 1.4 is from 2001. So you are telling me that
you are working with a system that is more than a decade old?!?! And you
really want to use that in 2010 (almost 2011)?

I repeat my earlier statement – RUN AWAY!!!

Leonard

Thanks for your quick reply.
The short answer to “Why …” is that I am not smart enough to know.
The PDFs are converted to PS and then some process does some stuff to the PS.
Whatever that process is looking for has moved.
It is outside my area and so it is best if I can leave it be.

If I use the method that produces a good PDF, then the version changes from 1.2
to 1.4 and doesn’t work downstream.
If I use PdfStamper, on a one by one basis my PDFs output are identical, but
the merged (concatenated) doesn’t seem valid.

Why is the downstream process invalidated if the resulting PDF is valid?

Subject: [iText-questions] PDF Stamper
I am having trouble merging pdfs with PDFStamper.
I have been successful using reader and writer and document and contentbyte,
and getimportedpage,
But using these methods rearranges the internals of the PDFs being merged and
invalidates a downstream process.
I can concatenate PDFs with PDFStamper without changing the internals, but the
resulting PDF is not useable because it seems to be just the originals
concatenated.

Any examples out there?
Thanks.
