i'm having the same problem, it was resolved with this code snippet:

            ArrayList a2 = new ArrayList();

            a2 = HTMLWorker.parseToList(new StringReader(convocatoria),
style);

            for (int i = 0; i < a2.size(); i++) {

                if
(!a2.get(i).getClass().getName().equals("com.lowagie.text.pdf.PdfPTable")) {

                    Paragraph p2 = new Paragraph();
                    p2.add(a2.get(i));
                    document.add(p2);

                } else {

                    if
(a2.get(i).getClass().getName().equals("com.lowagie.text.pdf.PdfPTable")) {

                        PdfPTable tabla = (PdfPTable) a2.get(i);
                        document.add(tabla);

                    }
                }

            }
