You get a rect value and you assume that the middle of the page is at x = width / 2 and y = height / 2. How can you be sure that this is the case? Isn't there an offset? In other words: is x = 0, y = 0 the coordinate of the lower left corner of the PDF? If not, it could be normal that you don't see anything. Or maybe the existing content is opaque? By the way: why are you making your watermark transparent if you add it under the existing content? Plenty of question for you to answer on the mailing-list before anybody can answer.
