I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean you're losing spaces vertically (newlines at the bottom)?Or do you mean you're losing spaces horizontally (space characters at the right)? In both cases, it might help to replace the space character with a non-breaking space character ("\u00a0"). If you're talking about spacing at the bottom, you can always change the Y value of the ColumnText object.
I'd have to see the context to know which solution is most appropriate.
