Apparently, there is a bug in Adobe Acrobat version 9 which causes bold-face
fonts to appear blurry when multiple documents are opened. This problem may be
present in previous versions as well. I began to notice that documents with
Bold Fonts appeared to become blurry when multiple documents are open at the
same time. At first, I thought it was just my eye sight. Then I thought it
was the Fonts I was using in the PDF documents I had generated using iText 5.
I tried embedding the fonts, not embedding them, and even using a more narrow
line width on my PdfContentByte. The problem would appear to be resolved when
I opened my new document. However, I noticed that if I opened an older
document first and then my new document which appeared to have resolved the
problem, I noticed that my document that had appeared clear and crisp now had
blurry bold face fonts. This problem has been reported on other forums, but I
wanted to inform this list of readers if they had not encountered it before.
The solution is to change the Preferences of your Page Display in Acrobat (Edit
-> Preferences -> Page Display -> Rendering). The actual settings vary from
one workstation to another, but changing from "For Laptop/LCD Screens" to "For
Monitor" has some affect. "Enhance Thin Lines", "Use 2D graphics
acceleration", "Smooth line art", and "Smooth images" seem to have varying
impact depending upon the workstation.
