As you know, the Java code you write for Android isn't executed on the Java Virtual Machine from Oracle, but on the Dalvik VM. There's a difference between both VMs. Google has compiled a whitelist of Java classes that are allowed on Android. All classes not on this list can't be used. This "forbidden" list includes most of the java.awt classes as well as plenty of the classes in the java.nio package.
In other words: you've hit one of the limitations of Android.
