I asked a question a while back about using the unsupported UpLeftArrow in iText as the icon for a sticky note. It displays just fine in Adobe Acrobat/Reader on a desktop, but defaults to the comment icon on Adobe Reader for iOS. I was told to look into appearance streams. I decided to use the setAppearance method in the API to accomplish this. I am basically drawing the UpLeftArrow myself using a PdfContentByte.
When I create the document from scratch using a PdfWriter and its direct content, the sticky note displays properly on both the desktop and in iOS. However, when I use a PdfStamper and its direct over content to edit an existing PDF, the annotation is invisible on the desktop unless I manage to find it with my cursor and click on it. It doesn't appear to display at all on iOS, although it may simply be impossible to find it. Is there something I am missing here about annotating existing PDFs? I'll be happy to provide source if someone needs it to figure out what I may be doing wrong.
