The book is indispensable.
You don't need to read it completely, but only the parts you need.
Even a slow reader can read chapter 8 in a day.

The book isn't free, but:
- neither is your time, so you have the option, spend money on the book 
to save time, or time to figure things out yourself, or (in your case) 
beg for other people's time.
- it was never a choice to ask money for the book; that's how it works 
when you write a book for a publisher. The next books will be free:

You may complain that the new books aren't finished yet, but then you'll 
have to include yourself in the blame game, as you're consuming time 
that could otherwise be used to continue writing the books.

As for the C# examples: iText Software has paid money to port all Java 
examples to C#. It seems like you're making the consistent error in your 
thoughts that people writing open source software need to work for free 
because that's how you like it.
