Function definition is like this actually:
functiondef ::= *function* funcbody
funcbody ::= ‘*(*’ [parlist] ‘*)*’ block *end*
So in your example this works:
box[key].click = function(self,L,C)
end
The other way is just syntactic sugar and the does not accept square brackets.
