Hello Garey, As your Redhat system depends a lot on your Python 2.4 installations the Python 2.6 package are Parallel Installed packages:
http://wiki.iuscommunity.org/Doc/ClientUsageGuide#Package_Types What this means is you will install python26 next to the default Python 2.4 packages and not uninstall Python 2.4. Let us know if you have any questions. --- Jeffrey Ness On Jan 27, 2011, at 6:12 PM, Garey Mills wrote: I have a RedHat RHEL 5 installation, and I would like to update the Python to 2.6. However, when I go to erase the current Python (2.4), yum wants to erase some 396 packages. What is the process I should follow to upgrade the Python, or is it more common to install Python2.6 parallel to the supplied Python? -- This message was sent from Launchpad by Garey Mills (https://launchpad.net/~gmills) using the "Contact this team" link on the IUS Community Members team page (https://launchpad.net/~ius-community).
