sorry for the late answer but I will retract my initial suggestion.
I tried rebuilding PHP with --enable-fd-setsize, but that didn't help
me. I'm still having issues, so I will have to do a hard sell: to
convince guys to move from Apache/prefork/mod_php to
Apache/worker/php-fpm to circumvent these issues in the future.
I'm on el6 + php54 ius, although issue mentioned is not a IUS-build
specific - el6 and el7 official builds also have the same problems.
Thanks for the update. We will not investigate changing this at this time.
