Hello, Joel.

Just wanted to check if there is already a new reference hardware for the Tizen
IVI. Is it still NDiS 166?

Best Regards,
Ryan

The Intel(tm) Atom(c) E640 CPU used in the VTC1000 has been available for a few years and
the drivers for this are considered to be in "sustaining" by the Intel team
that does the driver support. Updating the drivers (particularly the graphics driver) to
support new kernels and graphics systems used in Tizen apparently could not be supported
by this team. I would like to have seen their support for Tizen continue at least until
the next generation IVI processor based platforms are widely available, but they decided
they could not continue new development on an older platform.

It looks like that will be late this year (2013) or early next year. The Tizen
team has been using the NexCom NDIS166 with a B810 CPU for several months
because architecturally this is very similar to the next generation IVI
processor. Anything that works on this system should work on the next Intel
IVI systems.

We picked the NDIS166 because it was the only ready to use out of the box,
product quality designed for embedded system we could find that would support
the B810 CPU when we looked for this several months ago. Unfortunately it is
not designed for automotive use. But software developed on this should work
well on automotive systems.

We are in the process of evaluating a new interim platform (another NexCom VTC
platform) designed for automotive that will use the Intel 847e processor, which
is an even better match to the next generation IVI processors than the B810. I
expect to be able to announce the successful evaluation of this platform later
this month. We are also working to ensure NexCom and other vendors are able to
provide platforms with the next generation IVI processor as soon as possible,
but I don't have a firm schedule for this yet, and I'm sure it won't be in the
next 6 months.

Again we expect any software developed on the NDIS166 or the new VTC platform
we are evaluating will continue to work fine on the next generation Intel IVI
platforms because of the compatible processor architecture. Specifically the
SOC drivers used for the Intel(tm) Atom(C) E640 (aka Tunnel Creek) are not
forward compatible with the NDIS166 B810 or the 847e or the next generation
Intel IVI SOC, but the SOC drivers for the B810 and 847e are forward compatible
with the next generation Intel IVI SOC.

Subject: [IVI] Best Hardware to use with Tizen IVI

Hello,

Our company is considering buying the VTC1000 for use with Tizen IVI, but based
on the wiki, the previews starting from November 13, 2013 no longer support
this hardware.

Is the NDiS 166 the new reference hardware for Tizen IVI? Is there a better
"futureproof" hardware for use with Tizen IVI? The ExoPC maybe?

Best Regards,
Ryan
