The main reason the snapshot repos are enabled by default in snapshots is cuz…well…they are snapshots. lol Since developers are using them to test their changes, and RE uses them to do smoke testing, it was the most intuitive choice for that. We obviously want to use the corresponding repos for snapshots.
It would be really nice to have daily images with daily repos enabled, though. I can only come up with two ways to do this… One is to just enable the daily repo instead. The other is to generate an actual daily image, in the same fashion that we generate release images. We would just publish the daily instead of the snapshot. The other option, of course, is just to change the daily repo to default in the snapshots. I am reluctant to add more images just for the sake of which repo is default, but if there was enough demand for it, I would be open to doing that. If that would make life easier for QA, too, then I think we probably have a good case for doing that. It's not really any more work for RE. We would just smoke test the daily image instead. I am also okay with just flipping the switch, so to speak, in the snapshots and have daily enabled by default. I would, however, want the developers to weigh in on that first. Snapshots really are there to enable them, so if that is too impactful, I would rather not change that. In any case, that is the thinking that went into the default choices for images. I am certainly open to changing that to meet whatever the team thinks is the best way to do it. When I want to use the latest and greatest Tizen IVI images, I tend to pick the latest daily release (http://download.tizen.org/releases/daily/tizen/ivi/latest/) and I barely ever go in the snapshot folder given that I don’t even know if these images are functional at all. On a similar thought-process, when I run such images, I would prefer to only pick package updates from the daily release repo which means one of the first thing I do is change which repos are enabled by default [1]. It’s not a big effort but I’m wondering if it wouldn’t make more sense to have it the other way around by default.
