I followed these instructions.

PVR-500

Using knoppmyth R5A16 and ivtv: version 0.3.9

These instruction include tons of options in modprobe.conf, while the latest ivtv driver works best auto-detecting. Try removing all the options lines for ivtv, cx25840, saa7127, msp3400.

From the dmesg you included :

ivtv: i2c attach to card #0 ok [client=tveeprom, addr=50]tveeprom: Hauppauge: model = 23552, rev = D592, serial# = 2995024tveeprom: tuner = <unknown> (idx = 101, type = -885711276)tveeprom: tuner fmt = <none> (eeprom = 0x00, v4l2 = 0x00000000)tveeprom: audio_processor = MSP3410D (type = 5)ivtv: This is the first unit of a PVR500ivtv: No tuner detected, default to NTSCivtv: i2c attach to card #0 ok [client=(tuner unset), addr=60]tuner 0-0060: chip found @ 0xc0 (ivtv i2c driver #0)cx25840: Unknown parameter `i2c_enable'ivtv: Failed to load module cx25840

Blech, html format makes this hard for me to read, but there's 2 issues. First, you specified an option to cx25840 that was invalid and caused it to fail to load. Removing the options as I said before will fix this. Second, your tuner is not detected, but the D592 version should work fine, so try removing all your modprobe options and see if it auto-detects. If it does not, then I'd guess that the kernel version of the tuner module was getting loaded instead of the ivtv version. Try renaming the kernel one.
