Using gcc-3.4 in the Makefile made the source compile. After the firmware
upgrade and the cold reboot I'm now using v.0.4.0 for 5 minutes in myth
0.18.1 without noticeable problems.

I think this is due to your kernel being built with 3.3 or 3.4, but your
trying to compile with 4.0.
try this instead of editing the makefile
make CC=gcc-3.4
