At the risk of stating the obvious - the files created go in different
directories. Are you sure the live tv directory exists and is
writeable by the appropriate user.

If that's all good, then maybe there's some useful info in the backend log file.

IMO if mplayer works then ivtv is working - anything else is a myth
problem and should probably be discussed on the mythtv list.
