My thoughts about this phenomena:
- Although the iTVC16 (PVR500) is a cheaper version offering only encoding, but
provides better quality over the iTVC15 (PVR350)
- The used tuners are different for PAL as for NTSC on a PVR500 and a
PVR350. I read previously that channels are not equally wide.
Are some of the frequencies maybe misinterpreted ?
Did somebody try to change the frequency a little bit (this will result in a
new EPG source for the PVR350) ?
- My problem channels (West-European, Provider Cablecom Zürich) are:
ORF1 S5 133.23
RTL K6 182.66
DSF K24 495.23
Eurosport S17 274.48
- Stanley replied that keeping cabling away from the PVR350 quality
improved. I consider swapping the two units. Somebody already tried this ?
- Mike, The pattern is slanted at approx. 70 degrees or at 110 degrees
- Another problem I noticed: Although there has been done some work
(around 0.3.7) to have the same soundvolume, my PVR350 unit is approx.
40% louder. Some of you notice the same ?
Like to hear more about your findings.
Regards
Ruud

Subject: Re: [ivtv-devel] PVR350 with stripe pattern (PVR500 is OK) - ivtv0.4
I have the same on certain channels, also on a PAL tuner type 38.
However, I do notice some improvement when I keep *all* cables, such as
HDD and Fan power cables as far away as possible from my PVR-350.
Stanley.
Mike thanks for responding.
Did you make a test under windows ?
Did it also happen in ivtv-0.3.7 with the proposed firmware for you ?
So it happens with PAL as with NTSC based tuners on a PVR350:
38 (Philips PAL/SECAM multi (FM1216ME MK3))
47 (LG NTSC (TAPE series))
It would be great if more people could a look at it and report their
experience and tunertype.
Thanks Ruud

Hello
I notice a stripe pattern on my PVR350 which does not exist on both of
my PVR500 tuners.
The pattern is at approx. 70 degrees or at 110 degrees across the
screen.
They are more noticable on some channels (German: DSF, RTL).
Because the other two tuners on my PVR500 look OK, it should have
nothing to do with the channelfrequencies.
I don't use any options in modprobe.conf.
Please have a look at the examples (1Mb and 5 Mb).

Did somebody see something similar ?

This happens to me too. Doesn't happen on my 500 but it does on my 350
with certian channels. I always thought it was just a crappy tuner.
