Maybe with the latest 2.4 kernel which got some v4l2 treatment, but
not 2.4.20-22, or does it?

At least I had the last successful build on 2.4.20-22 with v4l
snapshots around June 2004 on already v4l2 patched kernels.

No doubt, all I'm afraid of is a more difficult build path for users
and packagers alike.
