I fought a similar battle with a PVR-150 card for the last
4 days.

The locations of things (firmware) changed.  You gotta
read that bit from the web page very carefully.

Further, you gotta track down and kill any of the modules
that were hanging around from either your distro or prior
versions after or before you compile and don't forget
the depmod -ae

My sound problem was caused by an old version of cx25840.ko
laying around in my distro's "extra" modules directory.
