The double vision is exactly as you describe it. Now I'm running as you 
suggested the 0.4 branch and it seems to be gone. I also switch back to 
the 2.6.14 kernel that was present on the system, so I'm sure it uses 
the cx25840 module from ivtv.

The weird colors where do to hue totally off due to some experimenting. 
But I still can't explain the black and white that turned up every time 
after a day running. Well, I'll see what this version will bring me.
