Using ivtv-0.6.1 and kernel 2.6.16.5 from kernel.org, ivtv fails occasionally as noted in the Subject above. I started with Fedora Core 5 (replacing the kernel) and put the firmware in the /lib/firmware directory because of entries in the ivtv mailing list. And ivtv started working immediately! Then after a few days, MythTV reported the PVR-250 tuner "offline" and I found the error(s) in the sytem log.
The latest information from the log is shown below. It comes from an automatic Power-On and Boot via nvram-wakeup that was scheduled by MythTV. The machine powered on OK, but the PVR-250 was not ready - firmware failed to open/load. Also shown in the log: DVB registering the two other tuners, AirStar HD-5000 cards. Before rebooting this latest time, I tried the combination of rmmod ivtv and modprobe ivtv - still no firmware loaded. (Later) I see from the Troubleshooting Guide that these two steps are not sufficient. I should also note that my /etc/modprobe.conf has no entries for ivtv? (Strange, I think). The system autodetects the PVR-250, but I don't know what initiates the detection. Have you (who have also experienced the firmware open failure) found any work-arounds? It's a bit frustrating to have ivtv working so well, except occasionally when MythTV is running unattended. Thanks. -- MM Here's the IVTV part of the system log: May 6 12:28:14 midtown kernel: ivtv: ==================== START INIT IVTV ==================== May 6 12:28:14 midtown kernel: ivtv: version 0.6.1 (tagged release) loading May 6 12:28:14 midtown kernel: ivtv: Linux version: 2.6.16.5 SMP gcc-4.1 May 6 12:28:14 midtown kernel: ivtv: In case of problems please include the debug info between May 6 12:28:14 midtown kernel: ivtv: the START INIT IVTV and END INIT IVTV lines, along with May 6 12:28:14 midtown kernel: ivtv: any module options, when mailing the ivtv-users mailinglist.
