Hans,

Thanks. I will have to put this on hold for now and just go with the 250's
until I have the time and money to figure this out. I might have to splurge
for a low-end 2850 to experiment with.

As for the current problem, yes it appears to hang before the driver is
loaded, but it didn't used to. I did something either by creating the
device nodes by hand, or by loading files directly into the hotplug or
something, while following instructions in the ivtv driver source "doc"
directory (various READMEs), and following instructions in the
ivtvdriver.org "howto". After trying some of these more refined steps, it
stopped booting cleanly.

I did not change the BIOS, and I'm pretty sure the only kernel changes were
related to the ivtv steps.

Any last minute advice on the problem with not booting cleanly?

Otherwise, thanks again and hopefully I'll have more info for you later on.

Thanks,
Rich

Do you know about Know'bout?

So this is before the ivtv driver is even loaded? If you remove the ivtv
driver and then restart the computer, does it still have problems
booting? In that case it certainly is not related to the ivtv driver
and you might look at BIOS and kernel updates.

Assuming that the hang is during the card initialization in the ivtv
driver, my guess is that it is either a hardware issue or something to
do with the PCI/DMA setup. But in that case I'd expect problems with
the PVR250 also.

Can't you swap out harddisks? And put Windows on the new disk?

I really first need proof that it works under Windows before I'm going
to spend time on this. And the first step would be to put printk's in
the driver (ivtv-driver.c) and see where it breaks down. Also note that
I expect to have little time for this anyway in the next two weeks.
