In the video or audio or both? I thought that .vob files played OK 
(except for audio since that is most often dolby or dts and cannot be 
decoded by the cx23415).

I think for DVD playback you are better off using software decoding, 
possibly using the cx23415 for YUV output to make use of the excellent 
TV-out. That's what MythTV does, if I am not mistaken.
