As most people on this list are not clairvoyant (but only speaking for
myself here ;-), the more detail you can provide, the bigger the chance is
someone can make sense of it and provide you with a helpful answer.

Anyway, the DMA engine of the card is known to have issues with heavy
(DMA?) activity on the PCI bus. The DMA engine is able to crash the
firmware. So yes, in an indirect way mencoder may be able to crash the
firmware.
