I don't know what this script is, I haven't had time to look at it. 
However, marginal chipsets will exhibit problems that they would normally
not, when using some of these cards.. even with the interrupts alone...
although DMA does seem to be the main culprit.

Do you have another box you can test this one, preferably one with a
non-VIA chipset?
