I have 2.6.8-gentoo-r10 + lirc-0.7.0_pre7 + ivtv  running.

I haven't upgraded to 2.6.9 'cos it's working for me....

I compile the ivtv driver from src, lirc from the stock ebuild, although I
did do a

echo "lirc-0.7.0_pre7 ~x86" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords

to make sure I always get the latest x86 version, I think this might be
your problem, or perhaps you haven't got i2c + i2c_bit_banging enabled in
the kernel? anyway my config.gz from /proc on the running system is
attached.
