Since the summer I've been trying to optimize my mythtvbox with a good ivtv driver that allows me to: - record live TV shows - play back recorded live tv shows - play DVD's - play homemade video's (mpeg2, WMV) - play divx movies
The first two points work flawless since october( with good OSD response), the last three points causes a lot of issues/headaches/re-install etc. We all do recognize the PVRx50 line of cards produce very nice TV-out signals and mythtv is a wonderful tool to manage and centralize all kinds of media (dvd, recorded shows, divx, pictures, mp3). But as soon as you want to use the framebuffer of the PVRx50 card to play your media (DVD, divx, home-made video's) the mailing list is full of problems around tearing, a/v sync isues, framedrops, etc. While recently there have been a lot of works to optimize ivtv's framebuffer working and creating plugin's for the mediaplayers as xine and mplayer, there is still a fundamental problem in combination with mythtv. X is using the frame-buffer on the pvr-x50 output and your media-player (mplayer/xine) when playing via the optimized plug-ins/patches. Has anyone an idea if we could tweak X and mythtv that when you start playing a movie from mythvideo you would do something like: stop/freeze_x_on_pvr_350_tv_output ; mplayer -v ivtvosd -fs %s ; unpause_x_on_pvr_350_tv_output As such only one program at the time is using the PVRx50 frambuffer, either its the X or the mediaplayer (mplayer/xine).
