Argh, yeah, okay, three things. :-)
1) "options ivtv tuner=50" instead of "options tuner type=50"
2) in-kernel msp3400 works w/ivtv in at least 2.6.10 and later
3) you shouldn't have to specify tuner type for a PVR-250 or 350, it is 
recommended that you let ivtv handle detection automatically, its smarter 
than you are. ;-)

Very true. I try to stick to stock distro kernels as much as possible, but 
there's something to be said for both routes.
