Hi,
I'm not sure this helps, but I'm one of the guys who had this problem, and it was driving me nuts.
The only thing I was able to do was change the channel with ivtvctl, not with any of the included perl tools.
Today, I decided to ignore the apparent problem and to continue installing mythtv, which was my goal after all.
I found that since mythtv is smart and does all the tuning itself (without any tools, maybe only ivtvctl), it suddenly works perfectly!
I still have to finetune some channels, but most of them (75%) work fine now.
My point is probably not to stick with the problem for too long. When ivtv loads perfectly, it probably does because it works :-)
While I'm at it, thanks to all the good people for building the ivtv-drivers, you've gained another very happy user!
Regards, Marc-David

Subject: [ivtv-devel] Snow with Tuner Philips FM1216ME MK3
Hi,
desperate at the moment. All I get when tuning is snow. There are other people around telling similar trouble with their same tuner even though with static output (which is not the case with me, I get 'live' snow).
Having a Debian kernel i686 2.6.8 as well as k7 2.6.9, ivtv 0.2.0-rc3c. All the modules load fine without any errors, lspci, lsmod etc. look good. All I can say is that like Gijs (see below) I have the same bad output message when typing ivtvctl -I.
Looking for a solution led me last to a mail dated from 6 Dec (from Nick Rosier to Gijs de Wachter) saying there was no idea ...
Any help would be appreciated.
