You can do this:
rpm -ivh --force kernel-2.6.10-1.741_no4kstacks.rpm
have done,...
(This is the same as using --oldpackage.) This will install the
kernel without overwriting the existing one. There will be a new
entry in grub.conf that will let you choose the newly-installed
kernel at boot time.

The fedora kernel packages are designed to allow more than one to be
installed at a time. For example, rpm won't complain if you install
the 741_no4kstacks kernel and then install the 760 kernel; they'll
exist side by side. The "--force" flag just lets you do it in a
different order.
...which is what I was not sure (and not trying to test it the hard

It's probably best to avoid apt in this case. Enjoy!

here) are _supposed_ to be? After spending too much time of the recent
weekend stumbling through dozens of mails of different lists, I don,t
know what should be going into modprobe.conf by design?
