OK, I tried this (thanks for the cmd BTW), and I'm getting about 250
on the PCI IDE card, and 500/so on the motherboard card. What that
kinda says to mee is the build in ata controller is just hogging the
bus for some stupid reason.

BTW, I did more testing with the PCI ata card (Siig Ultra ATA 133),
and basically the box is useless when showing the on screen guide, but
other than that, it doesn't lock up. Not sure why the ivtv requires so
much hardware usage to display the overlay OSD, but I assume it has
something to do with the way the ivtv driver has to write the
framebuffer overlay, and issue it updates or something. In any case,
it definitely confirms my hardware issue is the motherboard's built-in
HD controller and it's unnecessary hogging of the system. Wouldn't
surprise me that the motherboard gives unnecessarily high priority to
the build in controller and ignores the PCI bus, similar to what Alan
and Joe are talking about.

I'm going to buy some new hardware, and as much as I hate "the man",
maybe it'll be Intel....(shutter)

Stupid hardware! It never works like you expect it to... ;) Maybe it's
set in the bios for a device, and it's polling to try and wake the
device up, even though it's not connected? Maybe it's device(s)
doesn't have the master/slave jumper(s) set right. Maybe I just pulled
those guesses out of my a$$.
