Tips for using Cheapi2c Don't bother with the diodes, you don't need them if you are not writing to the bus.
To minimise noise, don't have the wires any longer than you actually need. Shielded cable would probably be better, e.g if you have an unwanted CD-ROM audio cable you could use that. Because the points I connected to were very small, I first used 2" lengths of very fine gauge wire and then connected the longer wires from the 25way D plug to these. I used some hot melt glue to secure the wires so if i accidental pulled the cable it would pull on the glue joint rather than damage the tracks, this also allowed me to get away with more fragile solder joint. You might get a good i2c bus connection on your tuner - you should be able to trace the bus back from pins 9 (SDA) and 10 (SCL) of the Cirrus Logic ADC, because I don't have a tuner I soldered the wires to some through hole pins - these are the little pins that take the track from one side of the PCB to the other. The ground wire is easiest :) Try not to solder the wires directly to the surface mount components, the heat could damage them, also you might inadvertently bridge the pins with solder and then have to apply more heat to remove it. Use a low wattage (15W) iron and fine solder. Double check everything before you connect, and at the LPT end also. I think I used "lmilk -2 >file.log" ** take note that the data is output only after you stop lmilk. ** Take separate captures at various stages I suggest, 1.As the machine boots up from power on 2.When you load the windows app 3.Whilst you select the lowest frequency the software allows 4 Whilst you selecting the highest frequency the software allows 5 Separate captures for each frequency you actually need. 6 If your tuner supports multiple standards then capture as you switch standards. That's all there is too it, don't damage your card through rushing!! ------------------------------------------------------- SF email is sponsored by - The IT Product Guide Read honest & candid reviews on hundreds of IT Products from real users.
