How are you saving the patches to apply them? If you're cutting and pasting, 
it could be white-space getting converted to something other than what its 
supposed to be (i.e., tabs to spaces or vice versa). If you save the patch 
attachment, it should apply just fine. If you're already doing that, might 
need try a -p1 to patch, I think I habitually always use -p1. This definitely 
works for me:

patch -p1 -d ivtv-0.3.2h < morepalupdates-032h.patch

(Patch is in the same dir as the expanded ivtv-0.3.2h)
