You probably installed a video4linux-kmdl package from ATrpms, judging by the 
path.

No, shouldn't be choppy. I've been doing a fair amount of dev work on an old 
Athlon 800 (instead of crashing my workstation ;-), and it (usually) plays 
back video off both my PVR-500 and 150 perfectly smooth.
