ISTR trying that, and it didn't seem to do anything. I'll try it again this weekend. I thought it simply changed the input standard. Does it change both?

ivtv-osd doesn't support mmap access any more. I am not sure whether -vo ivtv uses the frame buffer
or the mpeg decoder. If it's the mpeg decoder then you
need to make sure that the alpha setting for the OSD
isn't getting in the way. You can use ivtvfbctl to
turn it off.

I know that I can change the alpha. My problem is that I want to ensure that the FB is working, before I try to configure X to use it. At the moment it's not. If I can't use -vo ivtv to test it, what can I use?

Cheers,
Roger.
