I just tried correct firmware. Seems to make things a little better? But, still not usable. cat /dev/videoX > /tmp/test_capture.mpg can give me a little file with a glimpse of color and sound if I wait long enough for pvr-500 tuner2. a little better for tuner 1 on that card, and perfect for the PVR-350... I'm running the stock vanilla SuSE 9.2 kernel, can't imagine it is preepmptible. The 1st tuner of the 500 will record from within mythtv but locks up with error trying to use it to watch live tv. Interestingly, it lasts longer if I try to watch tv using this tuner from a remote mythfrontend...
Normally, I'd move the card up or down a slot and hope for the best, but I'm stuck with the pundit-r, 2 slots (the reason the 500 was so attractive) and the 500 will only fit in the top one... I guess I could try removing the 350 just to see if that changes anything. Not finding anything in the bios that looks suspicious. I may dig up an old HD and make it a windows box for a few days to see if the hardware will work in windows.... or wait until the 500 gets a little more popular and see if these problems crop up again with my choice of hardware.
