I had the same problem in MythTV 0.17 on my pvr150 until I switched from using /dev/dsp (OSS) to ALSA. For me, I had to install the alsa-devel packages and then rebuild MythTV. After that, I switch the mythtv configuration from /dev/dsp -> ALSA:default. No problems since.
