If your sound has a bunch of static and you're using the audio line in, add the following to your modprobe.conf file and unload/reload the drivers (including wm8775) or restart your computer:

options wm8775 mixer=2

Also look at the doc/QuickStart file for more modprobe options. That will get rid of the static in your sound.

The -c audio=0xE9 is documented in the developer section of ivtv.sourceforge.net, but it won't fix your problem (at least it didn't for me when I messed with that). Also, though it may be fixed by now, in the 0.3.2i drivers the ivtvctl -y settings had no effect on the recording volume.
