I have the 5200 running with xvmc. In mythtv, first do "./configure --enable-xvmc" (you might also want --disable-lirc), then "qmake mythtv.pro" followed by "make" & "make install".
My CPU load dropped from 45 - 50 % to 13 - 14% (1.5 GHz Sempron) when watching TV.
This is with the latest nVidia driver.

Only problem is that OSD doesn't work properly - yet. You get a very jittery image as long as the OSD is displayed, image returns to normal when it disappears.

Cheers,

While we're on this (off) topic... Does anyone with the FX5200 (or
actually I have the FX5500) have any experience getting xvmc to work
with the nVidia drivers. I can't seem to get it going.

I noticed a lot of people using an FX5200 for playback. I've got a
PVR-350 and the ivtvdev driver works for me, but sometimes is a little
buggy and offers little support for other kinds of video playback.

For those who use the FX5200, is the s-video out for watching standard
definition comparible to the output of the PVR-350? Has anyone gone
from one to the other?

I am beginning to wonder if this might be a hardware problem. I do
not know if you posted your hardware, but could you for comparison?

This is mine is for the backend they would be going into

AMD athlon 3200
an7 motherboard
fx5200
1 gig corsair 400 ram (super value or something like that) seasonic
tornado 350W ps

Ha... nearly identical

AMD athlon XP 3200
Abit AN7... (-S2 I think)
FX5200
512MB 400 RAM
Silverstone ST400 400W (I think, might be a 360W, can't remember)

At this point, I'm almost willing to send my particular PVR-500MCE
whitebox card off to Jarod or Chris so that they can try and make it
work and send it back to me when they've got a driver that works. I
have a feeling that the PVR-500's they've gotten to work have a
different revision chipset. Several, at least 4 or 5, people have said
they've had the same identical error.
