I struggled with this too until I realised that Myth appeared to be re-setting the resolution. I could get a good picture using ivtvctl to set the resolution and mplayer to view the output from /dev/video0 but in Myth, the picture was always cut off on the right.
You need to go into the mythfrontend setup and edit the recording profiles for the MPEG Encoders. Change the default 480 x 480 in Default and Live TV to 720 x 480...

Its documented in http://www.mythtv.org/docs/mythtv-HOWTO-10.html under 10.5 Recording

Subject: [ivtv-devel] PVR-150 capture format and no sound

Hi, all
First I would like to thanks you for the wonderful work down for the ivtv project so that I can now enjoy the enjoy my own tivo.
I am using pvr-150 MCElp (NTSC) in EPIA M1000 running gentoo and mythtv. I got decent pictures from tuner with 0.32q following the mini howto, with 2 problems: 1. the TV seemed stretched and cut off on the right side. IVTVCTL -F give 480x480. I tried changing it to 720x480 using ivtvctl -f. The command reported success but falled back to 480x480 fairly quick . I read that scaling is not well supported but default should be720x480. Is there an explanation or work around? 2.I have got no sound. Any suggestions are welcome.

My modprobe.conf is like this:
options saa7127 i2c_enable=-1
options cx25840 i2c_enable=1 no_black_magic=1
options wm8775 mixer=2
options ivtv ivtv_debug=1

the tuner type is auto detected as type 43.

Thanks

Jun
