Perhaps there should be something about the format in the README.X11 in the /utils/ dir or at least in the tv out how to wiki since the old version accepted my invalid format and according to the wiki I did it correctly (I just recently added the PCI suffix because I saw that somewhere and I tried it in desperation). So the old format was 0:0x0#:0 and the new format is PCI:0:#:0?

I just got it working. what worked for me was BusID "PCI:1:8:0" Thanks John and Alan! Especially John for writing the driver. Can't thank you ivtv guys enough.

BTW: here's my lspci snippet:
0000:01:08.0 Multimedia video controller: Internext Compression Inc iTVC15 MPEG-2 Encoder (rev 01)

Yes Invalid then I was typing it quickly while getting

I igree that 0:8:1 is possible but i think that when X
prints the error the BusId it prints is the one it
expects to use. Without seeing the output of lspci or the Full X log
file though i'm not sure hence i gave the options.

Your busid is illegal. Change

"invalid", illegal specifically means prohibited by
law

But if you believe your busid is correct then

BusID "PCI:0:8:1"

0:8:x is quite believable on some systems. What I
think throws people is the
kernel and X disagreement about formats.
