When you reinstalled the software, did you install exactly the same versions 
as were previously installed? After upgrading some packages here (slackware), 
I ended up with the same symptoms and a previously working setup was now 
broken & locking up hard whenever I tried to run X on the NVidia card & 
PVR350 at the same time. Fortunately, as I've just found out, it's all 
working again, but I don't know what changes broke it or eventually fixed it. 
About the only thing I didn't change was the NVidia driver itself.
