I also had the problem getting no audio on a pal 500mce. I found setting
the v4l 'finetune' parameter to -7 seemed to solve the problem. How much
does that actually adjust the tuning?

Is it possible that the nicam subcarrier offset is being set
incorrectly?

New Zealand uses PAL B/G, with the nicam carrier at +5.85MHZ, as opposed
to PAL I +6.552MHz.

I have modprobe cx25840 audiofmt=0x04 but I do this after loading ivtv,
does it need to be loaded first?
