Well, don't I feel lucky that I had this exact motherboard then. =)

OTOH it's an excuse to upgrade my aging server hardware... so before I do that, are there any other chipsets I should stay away from? I'm looking at the Gigabyte GA-K8NS Pro (NVidia nForce3 250, AMD Socket 754, lots of PCI and ATA133/SATA150 ports, yum!).

This happens on certain mother boards, mainly VIA, and I think I have the same
one you do, what joy it is. Yeah, seems these boards are just too much
something for certain motherboards unfortunately, so some of us get unlucky
and don't get them into certain systems, sucks but seems like either VIA
or Hauppauge would be to blame here for some incompatibility, unless the
Windows driver works???.

(Sorry for the long post, but it's better to have all the information from
the beginning)

Hi,

Recently got a PVR500 MCE PAL that I promptly installed in my MSI 694T Pro
mainboard (Via Apollo Pro 133 chipset). It runs Gentoo with the standard
2.6.11-gentoo-r9 kernel and a few extras on a Celeron 1.4GHz

It sporadically reboots when encoding data, with anything from a few
seconds to 10-15 minutes of video recorded.

I have noticed some MPEG artifacts that seem to appear now and then. Just
a few green squared here and there, usually in a cluster, bot not in the
same place all the time.

Should I expect this from this (old) Via chipset mainboard? Is there
anything I can disable in the BIOS or in the kernel to avoid it? Or do I
have to go out and buy a new mainboard (which would mean a new CPU and
probably new memory as well).
