This is great!  I had the same problem using ivtv 0.3.5w and ivtvdev 10.1 and 
setting
the LiveTV resolution to 720x480 fixed it.  The 'dd' trick didn't work.  I can 
now
watch movies of various formats and sizes with good clarity and color depending 
on 
the quality of the file.  I'm in NTSC land.
