Hello all,

New listguy Steve here. I am running ivtv 0.3.6g right now on my Myth system, and am considering an upgrade to the latest revisions to see if that helps me with a memory issue. I'll post that exact memory problem in my next message, but in an effort to get y'all the most information, I wanted to pose some initial questions, some of the "Linux Newbie" variety, some of the "ivtv-specific" variety -

1) How can I determine what version of various ivtv components are running? An earlier problem of mine was solved when I re-compiled and installed after not having the correct ivtvdev.o file. Is there a magic Linux command like "version ivtv*" that will tell me if I've got 0.3.6g of this component, 0.1.9 of that component? I just don't know.

2) Related, how does one ensure that one has backed up all of the current components before installing a newer version? I know where ivtvdev.o lives, but what of the other files? You know, in case I need to roll back.

3) How do I turn on debug mode to get y'all the most information possible regarding my memory problem? Scratch that, I'll search the web for this as I realized that I haven't done that yet and don't want to appear a slackbastard ;-)

Thanks, and allow me to say that this is an awesome project - I get tired doing database programming, I can't imagine touching something like device drivers and the like.

Best,
   Steve
